Sea Kayaking Instructors (1)

Location:

Various locations in and around Montreal

Contract length: Season lasts from May-September work depends on demand and availability.
Experience: Candidates must be bilingual (French/English) and have sea kayak instructing experience. Must be able to give at least Level I certifications, ideally Level II also. Candidates must also be certified in first aid and by a recognized Canadian body (FQCK or Paddling Canada). There will be a mandatory staff training/orientation program that must be completed prior to starting.  Instructors will also have the opportunity to receive advanced training in adventure guiding. Must have own transportation.
Description:

Spend the summer outside at H2O Adventures many teaching locations!  Some of the courses are on the Historic Lachine Canal while others will be held in St-Anne de Bellevue and our Island base camp at the Rouge River.  The instructor’s duties will be to teach introductory sea kayaking skills to a predominantly adult clientele. The potential exists to guide trips to the Saguenay and Georgian Bay as well.

Salary: $45 for two hours courses, $150 for six-hour courses, $300 for two-day courses.
 

White Water Kayaking Instructors (2)

Location:

H2O Island

Contract length: Season lasts from May-September work depends on demand and availability - Top instructors can expect to make $6000+
Description: Spend the summer teaching white water kayaking for the Glorious Rouge River with trips to the Ottawa River and Gatineau River. Spend your nights on beautiful H2O Island with it's special instructors only side for privacy and refuge. 

White Water instructors must have a deep desire to share their passion for the river with others. They will be rewarded with life long friendships, memories,

Experience: Must be confident in class III+
H2O Adventures will be hiring new instructors for the summer. Experience preferred but a training program exists as well.
Salary: Three salary levels based on experience and responsibilities

Level I: $100/day
An instructor with less than 2 years experience

Aptitudes and skills Certifications required

  • Has displayed a good understanding of the H2O method and ability to convey concept to students
  • CPR Heart Saver
  • Reliable rolling ability
  • Sirius Wilderness Medicine 1st Aid (16hrs),
  • Knowledge of environmental and aquatic hazards in our teaching area
  • Demonstration quality technique
  • Demonstrated rescue ability of others in rough conditions
  • Solid theoretical understanding of skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability
  • Demonstrated understanding of pedagogical concepts
  • 100% Rolling ability

Level II: $125/day
An instructor with more than 2 years experience,

Aptitudes and skills Certifications required

  • All of Level I skills
  • Sirius Wilderness Medicine River Rescue certification or equivalent
  • Has displayed a complete understanding of the H2O method, the ability to convey concept to students and the ability to adapt the material of a course to every individual in every situation
  • A good understanding of river morphology
  • Stability & comfort in white water environment, class III minimum
  • Self-rescue ability in difficult conditions, class III minimum
  • Knows and embraces all aspects of their job and don’t need to be told what to do

Level III: $150/day

  • An instructor with more than 3 years experience
  • Lifeguard certification, or equivalent
  • Has gone beyond the H2O method and has acquired vast and varied experience outside of H2O Adventures
  • Takes initiative, takes control when required and displays leadership and impeccable skills and standards for all other instructors to look up to
  • Imparts skills and experience to other instructors, apprentices and junior instructors
